Job summary

Wounded Warrior Project seeks a Senior National Service Officer-Appeals to advocate for alumni and families in VA appeals. You will draft complex decisions, manage case dockets, and train staff on appellate strategies, ensuring compliance with AMA and legacy processes.

Ideal candidates bring five years of benefits advocacy experience and a deep understanding of Title 38 and CFR. Strong written and oral communication, research abilities, and relationship-building are essential.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience as a veteran's benefits advocate; JD may substitute.
• Knowledge of Title 38 and CFR related to veterans benefits.
• Experience handling admissions before VA, BVA, and appellate bodies.

Responsibilities

• Draft decisions for VLJ review, including complex cases.
• Manage and edit appealed issues before the VA and BVA.
• Evaluate credibility of medical and lay evidence in files.
• Maintain dockets and distribute electronically to field staff.
• Prepare appellate briefs and conduct hearings on dockets.
• Identify and correct administrative errors before Central Office.
• Assess Board decisions for potential Court of Appeals actions.
• Train teammates on best practices for appellate arguments.
• Research questions from policy teams and provide support.
• Build relationships with BVA leadership and judges.
• Cultivate relationships with Veterans Service Organizations.
• Maintain accreditation standards and complete required training.
• Participate in mandatory trainings and team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
