Job summary

Berkley Southeast seeks an Executive Underwriter in Meridian, MS. This senior role analyzes, prices, and manages complex commercial lines risk within delegated authority, partnering with agents and Territory Managers to ensure profitability.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in commercial lines underwriting (CGL, Property, BOP, Auto, etc.), strong negotiation and leadership, and CPCU preferred. Travel to agent locations is expected to build partnerships and mentor other underwriters.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10+ years commercial lines underwriting experience, including but not limited to CGL, Property, Packages, BOP, Auto, Crime, IM, Umbrella and/or WC.
• Comprehensive knowledge of commercial lines products and contracts, including regulatory and policy differences among applicable states.
• Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively prioritize.
• Demonstrated depth in negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong computer skills and ability to work with multi-faceted systems.
• Ability to effectively and independently manage a complex workload while exhibiting very sound judgment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with agents and other departments.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in commercial lines underwriting, risk evaluation and selection, risk pricing, profitability management, exposure analysis, and hazard recognition and control.
• Experience in agency relationship management, marketing support, and training and mentoring.
• CPCU designation or other equivalent coursework preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, select, price, and maintain commercially underwritten risks within delegated authority to ensure profitability.
• Partner with Territory Managers to manage complex books of business and support marketing activities.
• Train and mentor other underwriters as needed and share underwriting knowledge.
• Travel to agent locations to develop and strengthen agency partnerships.
• Identify sales and marketing opportunities and drive resolutions or improvements.
