Job summary

TDCSU, an Excess & Surplus lines subsidiary of The Doctors Company, is seeking mid-level underwriters to support expanding E&S physician professional liability business. The role involves developing segment strategies, evaluating risk and working with distribution partners in a collaborative environment.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in healthcare professional liability underwriting, strong organizational, communication and negotiation skills, and an interest in pursuing CPCU/RPLU designations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or relevant industry experience required.
• Four or more years healthcare/medical professional liability underwriting.
• Equivalent experience in a broker capacity is also acceptable.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word and Windows-based operating systems.

Responsibilities

TDC Specialty Underwriters, Inc. (TDCSU), an Excess & Surplus lines subsidiary of The Doctors Company (the nation’s largest writer of physicians’ malpractice insurance based in Napa, California), offers primary professional liability insurance products to physicians and physician groups. TDCSU has been in existence since January 2016 and is seeking to hire experienced professionals to support its continued growth. TDCSU is headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut.

TDCSU is currently seeking mid-level underwriting candidates to support the expansion of its E&S physician professional liability business segment.

Responsibilities

Working under the general supervision of senior segment manager and acting within authority appropriate to this position, the underwriter is expected to:

• assist in developing segment strategies, product development and definition of underwriting appetite and risk evaluation process
• develop and maintain productive relationships with our distribution partners,
• rigorously select, evaluate and secure individual accounts that meet our underwriting standards and guidelines,
• provide technical support and decision-making authority
• participate in underwriting profitability evaluations and implement any necessary corrective action
• constructively engage with peers and company support areas in day-to-day decision-making and customer service

Preferred Candidates

• Should possess a strong interest in the dynamics and trends underlying the healthcare industry and related social, regulatory, economic and legal trends impacting it
• Advanced degree and/or interest in acquiring RPLU or CPCU designation
• Demonstrated organizational, communication and negotiation skills
• Commitment to technical and service excellence
