Job summary

Stand Insurance in Chicago is seeking an experienced underwriter to lead a high-net-worth personal lines book, including complex homes and CAT risks. You will collaborate with brokers, marketing, mitigation and engineering to assess risks and craft creative terms that balance client needs with disciplined risk selection.

You will own your book, make decisive calls on submissions, and help evolve our tech-enabled underwriting tools while keeping the human judgment at the core.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of underwriting experience in personal lines, preferably HNW or complex property risks.
• Strong understanding of risk analysis, property & liability coverages, pricing and compliance.
• Track record of managing a profitable book while delivering excellent broker service.
• Ability to negotiate quote terms with internal and external stakeholders while building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships.
• Efficient and effective desk management.
• Proficiency in leveraging technology and adapting to new platforms and tools.

Responsibilities

• Become the underwriter brokers call when they have challenging CAT-exposed properties, unique collections, non-standard liability exposures.
• Grow your assigned book to premium and policy targets while maintaining strict risk quality standards.
• Cut quote-to-bind time, especially on complex risks, through decisive communication and clear workflows.
• Adopt and help refine our underwriting tools and platforms; push for process improvements.
