Job summary

Westwood Professional Services seeks a Senior Underground Transmission Engineer to lead the design of underground transmission projects from 34.5kV to 500kV. You will guide multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with planning, environmental, permitting, and construction management stakeholders.

The role emphasizes team development, client stewardship, and continuous improvement of engineering practices within a growing portfolio of projects.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical, Civil, or related engineering.
• Minimum 5 years experience in underground transmission, underground distribution, cable systems, power delivery, or underground utility design.
• Experience leading an engineering team and supervising staff.
• Experience with transmission systems rated 69kV or higher.
• Proficient in CYMCAP and cable‑pulling software such as Pull Planner or Cable 3D.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical staff in the preparation of utility engineering designs, cost estimates, and customer billing documentation across a portfolio of transmission projects.
• Manage the engineering aspects of multiple concurrent projects ranging from 34.5kV to 500kV, ensuring technical quality and client satisfaction.
• Participate in developing project schedules and defining technical staffing needs for projects and daily work assignments.
• Mentor and develop technical staff through instruction in engineering principles, governing electrical and safety codes, and applied transmission design practices.
• Collaborate with other departments and divisions on company-wide initiatives and cross-functional project efforts.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and identify opportunities to expand the firm’s footprint with prospective clients.
