Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior engineer to lead the design of complex underground transmission lines up to 500 kV. You will direct a team of engineers, designers, and drafters, develop duct bank layouts, cable routes, and component specifications.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and two remote days, plus a relocation package depending on location. A BS from an ABET-accredited program and extensive experience are required.

Qualifications

• BS degree from ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling.
• Proficiency with cable tensioning calculations and software.
• 12+ years of experience leading a design team on underground transmission projects.
• Design experience with codes and client requirements.
• Experience with cost estimate development and scheduling.
• Experience with XLPE cable design.
• Experience preparing specifications for underground transmission materials and components.
• Knowledge of right-of-way, bonding schemes and construction drawings.
• Familiarity with NESC, EPRI Green Book, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI 318.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Attention to detail.
• PE license is valued but not required.
• Experience with high pressure gas-filled or high-pressure fluid-filled cables.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission lines up to 500 kV.
• Lead cost analyses, design criteria, siting and manhole placement in complex environments.
• Develop duct bank layouts, trenchless designs, cable pulling calculations, and drawing packages.
• Conduct cable selection studies, bonding schemes, and ampacity calculations.
• Create riser configurations and assess structural loading.
• Draft specifications for cable procurement, installation methods, and construction.
• Coordinate with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components.
• Direct project team of engineers, designers and drafters.
