Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to design underground transmission lines up to 500kV. The role involves developing cost analyses, siting and routing challenges, duct bank layouts, and cable pulling calculations, while coordinating with vendors and clients.

The position requires 7+ years on underground projects, strong knowledge of codes and standards, and the ability to lead a small project team of engineers, designers, and drafters.

Qualifications

• BS degree from ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling.
• Proficiency with cable tensioning calculations and/or software.
• 7+ years on underground transmission projects with scheduling/budget experience.
• Design experience with codes, EPRI, client requirements.
• Experience with cost estimates and scheduling coordination.
• XLPE cable design experience.
• Preparation of installation and procurement specifications.
• Knowledge of right of way, bonding, drawings, and construction documents.
• Familiarity with NESC, EPRI Green Book, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
• MS Office proficiency.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission lines for voltages up to 500kV.
• Develop cost analyses, criteria, siting, and manhole placement.
• Design duct banks and trenchless installations and cable pulling calculations.
• Conduct cable selection studies and bonding schemes; perform ampacity calculations.
• Develop riser configurations and structural loading.
• Prepare installation and procurement specifications for underground lines.
• Coordinate with vendors/clients on components.
• Lead a small project team of engineers, designers, and drafters.
