Job summary

MTM seeks a Trolley/Rail Command Center Dispatcher in Memphis to ensure safe, efficient trolley movement via radio communications. You will monitor locations, track conditions, and power status, issuing movement authority through single-track sections and coordinating with maintenance, police, and emergency services.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 6 months transit dispatch experience, and ability to learn the dispatch system within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months experience as a trolley, rail, or bus/van operator preferred; equivalent transit dispatch experience may be considered.
• Must be able to comprehend and learn to operate the radio and computer dispatch system within 6 months from entry.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and directs movement of trolley/streetcar vehicles via two-way radio, maintaining safe separation and schedule adherence.
• Issues movement authority to operators to prevent conflicting movements in single-track/interlocking sections.
• Maintains dispatch and vehicle-tracking systems; updates data for accurate interface between voice comms and system data.
• Advises operators of track conditions, switch positions, detours, and schedule adjustments.
• Coordinates with Maintenance-of-Way and Power/Signal personnel on track/power issues and detours or bus-bridge substitutions when service is disrupted.
• Notifies authorities of incidents and prepares incident/accident reports.
• Gathers data on delays; records late/missed trips and guides operators to recover service.
• Serves as key contact for radio/dispatch system maintenance and repairs.
