Job summary

CapMetro is seeking a Rail Dispatcher to manage safe, real-time train movements on the CapMetro Railroad system. You will issue authorities and monitor conditions affecting movement under the Chief Dispatcher’s rules.

The role requires formal safety-sensitive responsibilities and coordination with train crews, Maintenance of Way, and signal staff, with on-site duties in a rail operations center. Prior dispatching experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Three (3) years' experience in railroad operations or as a railroad engineer.
• Previous train dispatching experience preferred.
• Must pass all required tests before completing training.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Issue track warrants, permits, and movement authorities.
• Direct real-time movement of trains and issue instructions.
• Document dispatching activity, authorities issued, and delays.
• Notify supervisor of disruptions or safety concerns.
