Job summary

Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) seeks a Senior Terrain Relative Navigation Engineer to architect and lead TRN image rendering and sensor modeling for lunar and planetary missions.

You will optimize Terragen and Unreal Engine pipelines for in-the-loop GN&C simulations, develop high-fidelity lidar-based TRN/HDA algorithms, and mentor junior engineers while interfacing with NASA stakeholders and multi-discipline teams.

Qualifications

• US Citizen with STAR IC.
• ABET-accredited degree in Aeronautics & Astronautics or related field; Master’s/PhD preferred.
• Significant TRN and lidar sensor modeling experience, including motion-compensated lidar scans.
• Proven flight-critical GN&C development experience with Monte Carlo and navigation filters.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead improvements to the TRN camera image rendering and simulation pipeline (Terragen / Unreal Engine).
• Configure and optimize rendering pipelines for high-efficiency in-the-loop GN&C simulation; oversee lighting map generation and pre-rendered lighting strategies.
• Provide technical leadership on high-fidelity lidar, laser altimeter, IMU, and star tracker sensor modeling and TRN/HDA algorithm development, analysis, and validation.
• Lead 6-DOF simulation framework development, Monte Carlo analysis, navigation filter implementation, and GN&C/flight software integration.
