Job summary

RK&K is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead transportation design in the Roanoke/Blacksburg, VA area. As a P.E., you will plan, design, and lead highway projects for VDOT and others, mentoring junior engineers and delivering compliant designs.

The role emphasizes roadway and trail/sidewalk design with OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, and related tools, guiding multi-disciplinary teams to successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
• Current P.E. license in civil engineering.
• Six or more years of highway/roadway design experience, DOT or municipal focus.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the design and analysis of highway projects.
• Review plans and documents to meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop cost-effective solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and design calculations.
• Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies to obtain approvals.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers to support professional growth.
• Perform QC reviews of design documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Stay current with industry trends and highway design advancements.
