Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking a qualified traffic engineer supervisor for District 10, serving McDowell, Mercer, Raleigh and Wyoming counties. The role reports to the Region 2 Traffic Engineering Manager and involves field observations, data review, speed studies, and development of traffic operation improvements.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of West Virginia (or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain WV P.E. registration by comity within 6 months of hire).
• Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, petroleum, mining, environmental, engineering technology, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Investigate reported traffic operation and safety issues by field observations, crash data review, and traffic counts/speed data.
• Perform speed studies to determine new or adjusted speed limits.
• Develop recommendations for pavement markings, traffic signs, signal timing, road modifications, and intersection changes.
• Review requests and provide recommendations for pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure and crossings.
• Draft Commissioner Orders for speed limits and parking restrictions; review and supervise MOT plans and District traffic projects.
• Coordinate with Regional Manager and district engineers; attend training and planning meetings as needed.
