Job summary

State of West Virginia in the District 5 area seeks a licensed Professional Engineer to lead traffic engineering initiatives, conduct data-driven studies, and coordinate with regional leadership.

You will review crash data, speed data, and traffic counts, recommending roadway and sign changes, pavement markings, and signal timing. Travel to Charleston and district sites is expected as part of routine duties.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of West Virginia (or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain WV P.E. registration by comity within 6 months of hire)
• Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, petroleum, mining, environmental, engineering technology, or a related engineering field from an ABET‑accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Investigate traffic operation and safety issues via field observations and data review.
• Perform speed studies and recommend changes to speed limits, pavement markings, traffic signs, signal timing, and roadway modifications.
• Review pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure requests and provide recommendations for crossings and safety measures.
• Draft Commissioner Orders for speed limits and parking restrictions; review maintenance of traffic plans for projects.
• Coordinate with Regional Manager and district engineers; provide district-level implementation support.
