Job summary

West Virginia is seeking a Traffic Engineer at the District 10 level (McDowell, Mercer, Raleigh & Wyoming counties). The role reports to the Region 2 Traffic Engineering Manager and supports local traffic operations and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities include field reviews, data analysis, speed studies, and recommendations for signs, markings, traffic signals, and roadway modifications. Leadership of staff and coordination with district and regional teams are expected.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in West Virginia or eligible by comity within 6 months of hire.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, petroleum, mining, environmental, engineering technology, or related field from ABET-accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Investigate reported traffic operation and safety issues via field observations, crash data review, traffic counts, and speed data review.
• Perform speed studies to determine new or adjusted speed limits.
• Develop recommendations for pavement markings, traffic signs, signals timing, and roadway/intersection modifications.
• Review pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure requests and provide recommendations.
• Draft Commissioner Orders for speed limits and parking restrictions.
• Perform traffic operations analysis using modeling software to develop improvement recommendations.
• Review MOT plans for District projects and active work zones for MOT issues.
• Supervise the District Sign Shop and provide day-to-day direction as needed.

Education
