A leading government agency is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to oversee project development processes. Job Posting: Senior Transportation Engineer (Civil)
Under the general direction of the Office Chief, the Senior Transportation Engineer at Caltrans oversees all phases of the project development process. Responsibilities include directing engineering staff, coordinating with project team members, consultants, and various divisions to expedite planning and design from preliminary review through environmental and design studies to the completion of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E). The role involves developing transportation project plans, specifications, and estimates, assigning and supervising staff, and ensuring projects conform to Caltrans standards and policies for safety, quality, and compliance. The incumbent will also oversee highway planning studies, coordinate with other districts and headquarters, and review projects prepared by external agencies for standards compliance.
The position is based at 111 Grand Avenue, Oakland, in a climate-controlled office environment. Periodic outdoor work may expose the employee to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and temperature extremes. Work hours are flexible between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with potential for telework and travel as needed.
The candidate must possess a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, a valid driver’s license, and meet the qualifications outlined in the Class Specification. A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) demonstrating relevant education, training, and experience is required, describing how the applicant meets the criteria in the duty statement.

Strong leadership, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills are desirable. Ability to analyze complex issues, develop cooperative relationships, and use computer applications relevant to transportation engineering is also valued.
