Job summary

BKF Engineers seeks a Senior Project Engineer with civil transportation design expertise to lead technical delivery on highway and multimodal corridor projects in California. You will mentor junior staff, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure high-quality design from planning through construction support.

The role offers hybrid or remote options from our San Jose base, requires 5+ years of experience, and CA-licensed P.E.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in transportation infrastructure design and delivery.
• ABET-accredited civil engineering degree required.
• EIT certification required; PE licensure preferred.
• Strong roadway design experience and Caltrans familiarity.
• Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and project management tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and delivery of transportation projects.
• Organize project workflows and delegate tasks to staff.
• Decide on project elements and consult leadership on complex issues.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental docs.
• Develop grading, drainage, and stormwater plans; review specs.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates; ensure QA/QC.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate sub-consultants.
• Attend client meetings and track action items; support scheduling.
