Job summary

GAI Consultants is seeking a Construction Technician (Transportation Construction Inspector) for District 11 projects for the 2025 season. The position will be based out of a Cranberry, PA office and requires inspection of highway and bridge work, field sampling, and coordination with contractors and engineers.

Requirements include a high school diploma, strong English communication, and substantial inspection experience; certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is required.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Minimum of one year PennDOT experience or two years transportation/highway/bridge construction inspection.
Four years of highway or bridge construction or related experience; twelve web-based TCI modules can substitute.
A Civil Engineering degree can substitute for needed experience.
BS in non-Civil Eng with TCI training can substitute for needed experience.

Responsibilities

Ensure contractor compliance with contract documents and safety precautions.
Consult with contractors, consultants, engineers, job superintendents on plans, specs, materials and methods.
Prepare daily progress reports and maintain progress schedules.
Check shop drawings and quotations for variation.
Maintain records of quantities and cost of materials.
Prepare contractors' payment claims and recommend payment.
Review plans and specifications for field observations.
Conduct tests and collect samples for testing.
Document field activities and testing results.
May lead projects and tasks; can work independently or lead crews when necessary.
