Job summary

GAI Consultants Inc. is seeking Transportation Construction Inspectors to monitor and document on-site activities on Western Pennsylvania projects for PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and local municipalities.

Ideal candidates will hold a high school diploma or better, and have some college or a BS in civil engineering/construction management. Strong communication and driving license are required, with opportunities to grow certifications and expertise on transportation projects.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Some college, AS or BS in civil engineering or construction management; other BS degrees considered.
• Basic mathematical calculations for length, area, and volumes.
• Effective communication skills.
• Effective time management.
• Ability to utilize technology for documentation (IPADs and app navigation).
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong desire to build a career in the transportation industry by obtaining industry certifications.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and document daily on-site construction activities.
• Ensure compliance with the contract documents and applicable state and local codes by the contractor.
• Consult with contractors, consultants, engineers, job superintendents, and others regarding plans, specifications, materials, equipment, methods, practices and safety precautions involved in construction and installation of the work.
• Prepare and maintain daily inspection progress reports, photographs, discrepancies, and corrective actions.
• Check shop drawings and contractors' quotations for variations.
• Maintain records of quantities and cost of materials used.
• Monitor and document erosion and stormwater BMPs and controls for proper function.
• Prepare contractors' periodic progress payment claims and recommended payment.
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication.
• Attend site meetings.
