Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Transportation) to lead inspection activities, oversee construction, and provide engineering guidance to meet highway and bridge standards. The role emphasizes collaborative problem-solving and field leadership across projects in Pennsylvania.

You will manage teams, review plans, and coordinate with municipal and utility partners while ensuring compliance and safety.

Qualifications

• Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate.
• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical evaluations to resolve complex construction issues and support field decisions.
• Manage construction activities, interpret plans, and ensure work meets design standards and specifications.
• Work with municipalities, utilities, emergency services, and other partners to resolve project concerns.
• Prepare work orders, estimates, reports, and material certifications for project tracking and compliance.
• Direct inspection of materials and workmanship and review construction practices for quality and safety.
• Plan and evaluate work, conduct performance reviews, guide training needs, and support staff development.
