Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Transmission Siting and Permitting Project Manager to support electric transmission, substation, and renewable energy projects across PA, NJ, or MD. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage complex permitting efforts, and guide client relationships from routing studies to regulatory approvals.

The role combines hands-on technical oversight with project leadership, mentorship, and business development, offering growth within WSP’s Earth & Environment Team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, biology, natural sciences or ecology, environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of experience managing environmental permitting and planning projects for energy-related infrastructure
  • Ability to lead project teams and work independently
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills with clients, agencies and colleagues
  • Experience preparing proposals, presentations, and project pricing structures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with client requirements management
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as project needs require

Responsibilities

  • Serve as siting and environmental permitting subject matter expert for electric transmission, substations, and renewable energy projects
  • Manage and direct routing and siting studies, analyses, and technical reports
  • Provide technical oversight for environmental permitting and planning across project phases
  • Develop strategies for public involvement programs and open houses/public hearings
  • Apply professional judgment to evaluate data and regulatory requirements for defensible solutions
  • Maintain familiarity with state/regional regulatory frameworks and coordinate with agencies and decision-makers
  • Lead and mentor project teams to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables
  • Support business development, client relationships, proposals, and pricing
  • Ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, and company policies
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding resources and client commitments
