Job summary

Duke Energy Corporation in Indiana seeks an Engineer III or Senior Engineer to support transmission protection and control projects across the Indiana Territory. You will design, develop, implement and support protection, control, SCADA, and automation systems for substations and switchyards, contributing from concept through construction and commissioning.

The role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, performing calculations, maintaining databases, and ensuring compliance.

Qualifications

• Requires ABET-accredited B.S. in Engineering or PE licensure.
• Master’s degree in engineering may substitute for the B.S. degree.
• Minimum experience: Engineer III requires 4+ years; Senior Engineer requires 6+ years or 5+ years with state PE.

Responsibilities

• Protection Engineer: Perform protection calculations and coordination to protect the grid.
• Maintain relay database for Midwest Relay assets and settings.
• Support compliance activities related to relay setting and coordination.
• Interface with Relay Technicians to support install and commissioning of settings.
• Engage in frequent meetings to coordinate and implement changes based on fleet needs and best practices.
• Develop positive working relationships to coordinate work activities and maintain records.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; identify opportunities to improve control designs.
• Controls Engineer: Develop complete control system designs for transmission substations and switching stations.
• Update schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
• Perform AC and DC system calculations; provide field troubleshooting support.
• Learn company standards and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure design accuracy.
• Identify opportunities to improve standard control designs and manage project timelines.
