Job summary

ICF is seeking a senior transmission planning engineer to own complex engagements, lead a study team, and shape the direction of our practice. You will drive steady‑state and dynamic analyses, coordinate with utilities and grid operators, and deliver robust recommendations for long‑range buildouts.

Ideal candidates bring 5–8+ years in transmission planning, hands‑on experience with PSS/E and PSLF, and strong technical writing and client communication. EIT/PE preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering from ABET‑accredited college
• 2+ years of experience in transmission planning or related electrical engineering
• EIT or PE registration or active licensure pursuit
• Familiarity with regional ISOs/RTOs and interconnection processes

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead on transmission planning engagements, owning scope, schedule, quality, and client relationship
• Perform steady‑state load flow and contingency analysis for planning studies
• Conduct transient stability and dynamic simulations
• Lead large load interconnection studies across multiple regional footprints
• Develop long‑range transmission expansion plans evaluating load growth and renewables buildout
• Support FERC order and interconnection reform compliance work
• Develop Python‑based automation to improve study execution
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to proposals and client scoping
