Job summary

Genentech is seeking a Principal Scientist in Translational Safety to provide scientific leadership across drug development, from early research through clinical and marketed products. You will lead safety assessments for multiple programs, integrating toxicology, pathology, pharmacology, and clinical data to shape development strategy and enable timely, high-quality decisions.

Qualifications

• PhD and post-doctorate or equivalent experience in toxicology or a relevant field with 3+ years in pharma/biotech/CRO.
• Proven drug development experience with strong decision making and data analysis.
• Experience interacting with global regulatory authorities is highly desired.
• Experience in oncology and/or non-oncology modalities incl. small molecules, biologics, ADCs, and cell/gene therapy is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Board certification in toxicology is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety assessments for multiple development programs.
• Design safety strategies from discovery to regulatory milestones.
• Collaborate with pathologists, translational scientists, pharmacologists, clinicians, and regulators to design GLP and non-GLP safety programs.
• Synthesize complex data and develop weight-of-evidence positions for risk assessment and study design.
• Proactively manage safety liabilities and communicate impact to teams and leadership.
• Contribute to external scientific standing through publications and collaborations.
