Job summary

Genentech is seeking a Senior Principal Pathologist-Scientist to lead independent pathology and safety strategy across multiple development programs, from discovery through late-stage development. Qualifications

• DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree with ACVP/ECVP board certification and 5+ years of drug-development experience.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and risk-based decision making in ambiguous, high-pressure development programs.
• Extensive knowledge of toxicologic pathology and regulatory toxicology in drug development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for senior stakeholders and regulators.
• Willingness to work on-site in South San Francisco at least 3 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple complex development programs and provide independent pathology strategy through regulatory milestones and later-stage development.
• Provide input for necropsy, clinical pathology, histopathology interpretation, peer review, and integrated safety assessments.
• Partner with toxicologists, translational scientists, pharmacologists, clinicians, and regulatory colleagues to design GLP/ non-GLP safety programs.
• Rapidly synthesize complex datasets and develop best-evidence positions to support risk assessment, dose selection, and program decisions.
• Advance safety biomarkers, NAMs, and digital/computational pathology approaches to strengthen translation and decision making.
• Mentor pathologists and other scientists, fostering rigorous scientific decision making and collaboration.
• Represent Genentech/Roche in interactions with health authorities and support novel regulatory strategies.
