Job summary

Transdev is seeking a Transit Safety Manager to lead safety programs at the Sussex, Delaware location. You will develop, implement, and oversee safety policies, ensuring compliance with FTA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulations while promoting a culture of safety for employees, passengers, and the public.

The role requires 3+ years in safety management or operations, experience with SMS, and strong incident investigation skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor preferred in safety-related field.
• Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) and regulatory compliance programs preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ experience, previous supervisory or leadership experience
• Experience in location safety management and/or operations management
• Providing quality training, including the creation and management of training materials
• Thorough knowledge of transit safety regulations, standards, and best practices

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate safety policies and procedures.
• Enforce local safety policies, procedures, and performance standards.
• Monitor compliance with FTA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulations.
• Coordinate annual safety program reviews and updates.
• Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction per PDOP in vehicle operation and passenger transport.
• Ensure Safety and Training SOPs, programs, policies, and procedures are current.
• Document training activities and maintain training records.
• Establish relationships with client and corporate personnel to identify training needs and resources.
• Prepare and conduct monthly safety meetings.
• Maintain employee filing system and participate in audits to meet expectations.
• Direct the location drug & alcohol program including random testing.
• Manage injury prevention program and reduce injuries.
• Conduct accident investigations with root-cause analysis and retraining as required.
• Conduct safety audits, hazard assessments, and operational reviews.
• Identify risks and develop corrective actions.
• Monitor trends in incidents and near-misses.
• Recommend measures to improve safety and reduce risk.
• Maintain/post OSHA log and safety records.
• Coordinate safety during emergencies and major incidents.
• Participate in drills and emergency preparedness initiatives.
• Coordinate pre-employment and onboarding.
• Travel 15% as needed.
