Job summary

HNTB is seeking a Transit & Rail Director to lead the Capital Region group in design, development, and delivery of projects, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and quality. This role coordinates staffing, resources, and staff development to meet client needs across multiple departments.

The position emphasizes strategic planning, SSA-driven pursuits, and cross-office collaboration, with a focus on achieving growth, high performance, and client satisfaction across Maryland and Washington, DC

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 12 years of practical experience including 4 years of supervisory experience.
• Master’s degree preferred; 15 years of practical experience; 6 years supervisory experience; PE certification; AICP certification; PMP certification.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises the development and management of operating budgets for the departments within the Group and coordination with the office's budget.
• Oversees group activities, establish priorities and assign staff to projects; collaborate with other groups and divisions on work-sharing needs.
• Drives the implementation of SSA (Sophisticated Sales Approach) on project pursuits and markets, including strategic planning strategies.
• Drives contracting (SCA) process through project delivery including scope, work plan and fee reviews.
• Drives SDA process including Work Planning and Monthly Project Reviews to ensure quality, on time delivery.
• Assists in marketing responsibilities: client discovery, proposal generation, interviews and win-to-work activities.
• Maintains client contacts to ensure satisfaction; leads and assists in sales and marketing for department growth.
• Assists in developing and executing the office strategic plan; may participate in Office Leadership Team (OLT).
• Recruits, hires, develops and retains department staff; supports department managers with performance and compensation reviews and succession planning.
• Manages project management activities (scope, schedule, budget, quality) and performs technical tasks (research, reports, design, specs, plans).
• Leads a group with 25–40+ employees; performs other duties as assigned.
