Job summary

Santa Cruz METRO seeks a Fleet Maintenance Manager to plan and direct fleet maintenance, asset management, and related programs. You will lead a team, oversee safety, budgeting, and compliance while coordinating with Operations, Facilities, and external partners.

The role emphasizes strategic oversight of maintenance programs, performance monitoring, and reporting to ensure safe, reliable service for Santa Cruz METRO’s fleet and facilities. Strong leadership in a union environment is essential.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent; eight years of progressively responsible experience in heavy-duty fleet maintenance.
• At least four years of supervisory or management experience.
• Post-secondary education or professional certifications may substitute for up to two years of non-supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field desirable; transit/public-agency experience desirable.
• A California Class C driver license is required; CDL and related certifications desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate fleet maintenance and related functions.
• Develop and implement policies, programs, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
• Monitor performance, analyze data, and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage maintenance programs, preventive and corrective actions, and quality assurance.
• Direct supervision of fleet maintenance staff and union interactions.
• Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and budget governance.
• Coordinate with internal/external stakeholders on fleet projects.
