Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a principal inspector to oversee transit and rail construction inspection projects in Herndon, VA. The role emphasizes coordinating inspection activities, supervising staff, drafting client communications, and ensuring adherence to plans, specs, safety policies, environmental permits, and DBE/EEO progress.

Required are 8+ years of inspection experience, experience with transit/rail projects, and client certifications.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of construction inspection experience.
• Demonstrated experience working on transit and railroad projects.
• Knowledge of construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment and materials.
• Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations.
• Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role.
• Client requested certifications.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards.
• Assign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project.
• Draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues.
• Review and maintain project documentation reflecting construction progress, environmental permitting conditions, safety policies, and DBE/EEO progress.
• Prepare, review and submit daily/inspection reports, work authorizations, and estimates.
• Notify contractor of non-compliance and corrective action.
• Review contractor schedules and track progress, advising on overruns and critical issues.
• Attend pre-bid/pre-construction/management meetings and assist with change orders and updates.
• Interact with public agencies, contractors, and others to respond to inquiries.
