Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a principal inspector to supervise transit and rail construction inspection projects across New York. The role demands extensive field work and leadership of inspection staff, with a focus on compliance with plans, contracts, specs and safety standards.

Qualified candidates have 8+ years of construction inspection experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, client‑requested certifications, and the ability to act as Owner’s Agent.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of construction inspection experience
• Knowledge of transit/rail construction inspection practices
• Ability to supervise inspection staff and coordinate with clients

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract documents, specifications and standards
• Assign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project
• Draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve field issues
• Review and maintain project documentation; monitor progress, safety, and compliance with environmental and DBE requirements
• Prepare daily / inspection reports, work authorizations, and estimates
• Notify contractor of non-compliance and corrective actions
• Review contractor schedules and track project progress; advise on overruns and issues
• Attend pre-bid / pre-construction meetings; assist with change orders and updates
• Interact with public agencies, contractors and other parties to respond to inquiries
