Job summary

Estes Express Lines in McCook, IL is seeking a Trailer Technician to perform repairs and preventive maintenance on trailers, inspect and diagnose equipment, and ensure compliance with FMCSA and safety regulations.

The role requires reading work orders/manuals, using hand tools and test equipment, and lifting up to 70 lbs. CDL and FMCSA Clearinghouse registration are preferred; willing to work nights/weekends in varying weather.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or trade school coursework or equivalent background.
• Must be 17+ years of age.
• Minimum of one year experience and/or completion of trade school; or equivalent education and experience.
• Must be able to use hand tools and test equipment.
• Must have own tools.
• Must know general repairs and PM criteria.
• Ability to keep up with changing technology and updates.
• Mechanical ability and interest in electronics and precision equipment.
• Must possess strength and stamina to work with heavy equipment and in awkward positions.
• Physical activities include walking, lifting, twisting, turning, climbing a ladder, etc.
• A valid CDL and acceptable MVR required if driving on public roads.
• If a CDL holder, must be registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills.
• Self-starting and organized.
• Strong work ethic and good problem solving skills.
• Willing to work any shift, including nights and weekends; flexible schedule.
• Must lift approximately 70 lbs., or more.
• Must comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct.
• Must interact well with others.
• Must work independently or in a team setting.
• Capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
• Responds well to questions; ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations/ procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with high comprehension.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and background check.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Repair and perform preventive maintenance on trailers.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and service equipment.
• Conduct safety inspections and prepare required FMCSA documents.
• Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
• Repair or replace defective parts and systems.
• Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with specifications.
