Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Traffic Engineer to join our team in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan Area. You will provide high-level guidance for the investigation, design, and operation of streets and highways, coordinating with engineers and planners to deliver safe and efficient transportation solutions.

The role requires extensive traffic engineering knowledge, project management experience, and strong communication skills to interact with clients and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with relevant experience.
• 7–10 years of post-education engineering experience with traffic design.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles and design.
• Experience in roadway planning, design, and construction management.
• Familiarity with MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO Green Book, and NACTO Design Guides.
• Ability to manage design and construction of traffic projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level technical guidance for multi-site traffic projects across design, investigation, and operation.
• Apply advanced traffic engineering techniques to identify roadway improvements across project phases.
• Conduct investigations of site conditions and analyze traffic plans for conformance with regulations.
• Lead cross-functional teams, manage budgets, hours, and resources for multiple projects.
• Develop strategies and designs that ensure safety and efficiency for road users.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations communicating findings and recommendations.
