Job summary

Fishbeck, a Michigan-based engineering firm, is seeking a Traffic Engineer to lead complex transportation design projects from concept through construction. You will work with our Transportation team in Michigan, mentoring junior staff, supporting client relationships, and growing Fishbeck's Michigan transportation practice while ensuring MDOT standards and MUTCD guidelines are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of traffic engineering experience, including MDOT projects.
• Michigan Professional Engineer license required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation; AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of MDOT standards and guidelines.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software and Synchro; TransModeler is a plus.
• Familiarity with the ITE Trip Generation Manual and complex maintenance of traffic design and traffic studies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with ITS and highway lighting design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components, including maintenance of traffic plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal systems.
• Ensure project work complies with MDOT standards and guidelines.
• Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
• Mentor and support junior staff while coordinating with other disciplines and regional offices.
• Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.
