Job summary

Fishbeck is seeking a Traffic Engineer to lead complex transportation design projects from concept through construction in Michigan. The role includes client liaison, mentoring junior staff, and growing Fishbeck’s transportation practice across regional office locations.

The candidate will work within our Transportation team in Michigan, handling MDOT-related projects, traffic studies, and signal optimization while ensuring adherence to MDOT standards and guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of traffic engineering experience including MDOT projects.
• Michigan Professional Engineer license required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation; AutoCAD/Civil 3D a plus.
• Strong knowledge of MDOT standards and guidelines.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software and Synchro; TransModeler a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components including maintenance of traffic plans, signing, pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal systems.
• Ensure project work complies with MDOT standards, the Michigan Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and applicable design guidelines.
• Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
• Mentor and support junior staff while coordinating with other disciplines and regional offices.
• Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.
