Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join our growing Southern California transportation team. You will lead traffic engineering efforts on major projects with LA Metro, Caltrans, and High-Speed Rail, mentoring staff and coordinating with agencies.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in traffic engineering, TE license, and strong communication with clients and stakeholders. Hybrid in-office collaboration is expected, with flexible engagement across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• California Traffic Engineer (TE) license required.
• 10+ years of traffic engineering experience in consulting, public agency, or transportation-focused environments.
• Experience with worksite traffic control, temporary traffic management, detour planning, and traffic operations during construction.
• Experience creating and reviewing traffic control plans for infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of California standards, MUTCD, Caltrans, and local agency review processes.
• Experience with LA Metro, LADOT, Caltrans, High-Speed Rail or similar agencies.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management; mentor technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, review, and approval of worksite traffic control plans, traffic management plans, and detour strategies.
• Provide technical expertise for construction traffic management and work zone safety.
• Support LA Metro assignments and review contractor traffic control plans.
• Support High-Speed Rail and other agencies with design reviews and transportation management activities.
• Contribute to regional transportation improvements and Olympics-related programs.
• Prepare, review, sign, and seal engineering documents and traffic control plans.
• Coordinate with LA Metro, LADOT, Caltrans, municipalities, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare traffic studies, management plans, analyses, and deliverables.
• Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to support project delivery.
• Manage project tasks, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Build relationships with clients and agency personnel; mentor junior staff.
• Support proposals, client presentations, and business development.
• Collaborate with highways, transit, rail, and civil infrastructure teams.
