Job summary

Econolite seeks a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead planning, design, and optimization of traffic signal operations for intersections and corridors. You will support deployment of Centracs Mobility, develop timing strategies, and ensure system performance.

Strong client-facing skills are essential for successful project delivery and satisfaction. The role requires expertise in signal timing, ATMS platforms, and simulation tools, with 8–15 years of ITS experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred.
• 8–15 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering, transportation operations, or ITS.
• Experience developing, deploying, and validating traffic signal timing plans for public agencies.
• Expert knowledge of traffic signal operations, coordination principles, traffic flow theory, and timing plan development.
• Proficiency with traffic engineering and simulation software: Synchro, SimTraffic, PTV Vissim, Visum, Vistro, and related tools.
• Experience with ATMS, preferably Centracs Mobility or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of NEMA and ATC standards, detection technologies, and communication systems.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
• Experience providing technical leadership and customer-facing support.
• Valid driver's license; ability to work in office, field, and TMC environments.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and travel 25–50% as required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the project lifecycle with agencies and stakeholders.
• Develop, implement, and optimize traffic signal timing plans for intersections, corridors, and regional networks.
• Conduct traffic operations analyses using Centracs Mobility, PTV Vissim, Vistro, and related tools.
• Evaluate traffic signal performance and validate improvements through field observations and data.
• Support integration of detection systems, transit signal priority, and multimodal strategies.
• Participate in system design reviews, pilots, and development of operational concepts.
• Deliver technical training and customer support to agency personnel.
• Collaborate with project managers and quality teams to ensure successful delivery.
• Prepare technical documentation and project deliverables defining scope and configuration.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.
• Maintain communication with customers and stakeholders throughout delivery.
• Support testing and ensure successful system implementation and satisfaction.
