Job summary

West Virginia University in Morgantown is seeking a Trade Maintenance Mechanic II to perform general construction and building maintenance tasks across carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and related trades. The role includes operating a state vehicle, preventive maintenance, and support during off-hours.

This position emphasizes a strong work ethic, ability to read blueprints, use computer-based maintenance systems, and respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• 2 years experience in general trades building maintenance areas: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC or other craft trades.
• Associate degree in building maintenance or other craft trade.
• Completion of a 2 year accredited vocational craft trades program.
• Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance duties related to carpentry: fabrication/repair of casework and furniture; installation/repair of floors/ceilings; window coverings, doors, trim, locksets, windows; installation of window AC units and ventilation fans.
• Installs and repairs drywall, insulation, trims, and moldings; fabricates, installs, and maintains walls, ramps, scaffolding, shelters, stairs, platforms, handrails, etc.
• Performs electrical troubleshooting: replacing light switches, ballasts, outlets, wiring, motor repair, breakers; minor lighting repairs.
• Performs plumbing troubleshooting: faucets, drains, traps, steam system components, valves, toilets.
• Maintains mechanical equipment systems: installing parts, repairing pumps, air handling and cooling tower equipment, bearings, gear boxes.
• Maintains HVAC: calibration, belts, minor appliance repairs.
• Operates as a First Responder to odors, leaks, breakers, drains.
• Requisitions parts from Warehouse; operates state vehicle; maintains tools inventory.
• Performs scheduled/preventive maintenance: inspections, lubrication, belt replacement, cleaning.
• Uses maintenance management software; documents activities as assigned.
• May fill in for Trades Specialist Lead II as assigned.
