Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Exchange team to shape the architecture of the matching engine, order management, market data, and risk systems. You will own multi-quarter initiatives, drive latency-sensitive solutions, and influence across multiple teams.

You'll mentor senior engineers, contribute hands-on coding, and lead with a startup mindset while delivering at Coinbase scale for 24/7 markets.

Qualifications

10+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production trading or market-data systems.
Expertise in low-latency distributed systems and JVM/Linux performance tuning.
End-to-end ownership of a trading platform's architecture across components.

Responsibilities

Own the technical strategy and architecture for core Exchange domain and multi-quarter initiatives.
Lead design of ultra-low-latency, event-sourced trading systems across cloud and colocated environments.
Drive cross-team alignment across Exchange, Prime, and Derivatives with senior leadership.
Establish quality bar with deterministic testing, failover design, and 24/7 operational standards.
Maintain hands-on contribution while guiding other senior engineers and tech leads.
Mentor L5-L6 engineers and grow technical leadership on a lean team.
