Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Sr. Traction Power Engineer to lead design efforts for electrified rail projects in the New York area.

You will prepare diagrams, specifications, cost estimates, and studies for traction power systems (AC/DC) and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams. The role requires strong leadership, broad experience with substations and traction networks, and willingness to travel to client offices across the US.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering + 6 years traction power design experience.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Experience with traction power AC/DC, HV/LV systems incl. relaying, rectifier, distribution, and SCADA equipment.
• Experience leading design calculations, plans, specs, and technical reports.
• Knowledge of AREMA and IEEE standards for Traction Power design.
• Experience on large transit/railroad projects with substations/3rd rail/overhead distribution.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and guide engineers to develop one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable routing.
• Perform protective relay settings and coordination studies.
• Ensure compliance with AREMA, NFPA 70, IEEE C2, and other US standards.
• Exercise judgment in selecting engineering options and design approaches.
• Travel nationally to AECOM and client locations as needed.
• Conduct site investigations in high-voltage substations and along electrified railways.
