Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Sr. Traction Power Engineer to lead traction power design for electrified railways in the New York area.

You will guide engineers, develop designs, and prepare specifications for substations, 3rd rail and overhead systems, ensuring technical rigor and regulatory compliance. You will work on notable projects with Metro North, LIRR, PATH, MBTA and NJ Transit while traveling to project sites.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
6+ years of traction power design experience with 750 V DC third rail and overhead distribution systems.
Professional Engineer license required.
Experience with traction power AC/DC, high/low voltage, relays, rectifiers, distribution, and SCADA equipment.
Knowledge of AREMA/IEEE standards for traction power design.
Experience on large transit/railroad projects with substations, 3rd rail or overhead distribution.

Responsibilities

Prepare and guide engineers to produce one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable sizing, substation layouts, and equipment specifications.
Perform protective relay settings and coordination studies.
Ensure compliance with client, local, state, and federal regulations including AREMA, NFPA 70, IEEE C2, and other US standards.
Exercise judgment in selecting engineering approaches and design options.
Travel nationally to AECOM and client offices as needed.
Conduct site investigations in high-voltage substations and along electrified rail corridors.
