Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in Jamaica, Queens, is seeking a Senior Manager, Timekeeping Payroll for the Long Island Rail Road. The role leads the timekeeping payroll unit, oversees staff, and ensures accurate time processing and leave benefits administration for LIRR employees.

The position requires a BA/BS in a related field and at least 6 years in payroll/timekeeping, plus 2 years of people management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum 6 years in a Payroll/Timekeeping function including payroll processing, auditing, analysis, and reporting.
• Minimum 2 years in managing and monitoring employees.

Responsibilities

• Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department; provide career development and coaching; handle discipline when necessary.
• Oversee weekly processing of time and leave for all LIRR-paid employees; review and process time documents and electronic files; calculate net wages and perform Kronos payroll reviews/adjustments.
• Lead a core resource group for development, design, project management, and implementation of new initiatives; manage payroll/timekeeping systems and related enhancements.
• Advise IT/consultants on business requirements, system processes, and impacts of changes on timekeeping/payroll functionalities.
• Provide functional support to maintain Timekeeping/payroll system; automate special payroll calculations for accuracy.
• Develop Internal Controls program for timekeeping/payroll; coordinate internal control testing and reporting.
• Manage year-end tax reporting and various gross wages analysis; assist with year-end accounting requests and W-2 processing; support related tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
