Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Sector has an opening for a Staff Thermal Systems Engineer to join our team in Linthicum, Maryland. The ideal candidate will apply thermodynamic principles to spacecraft and avionics subsystems, developing robust thermal designs and analyses.

You will own requirements, coordinate testing with test engineering, mentor junior engineers, and interact with customers. A strong background in thermal design, testing, and tools such as Icepak, Thermal Desktop, and NX is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 12+ years, or master with 10+ or PhD with 8+ years in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
• U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.
• Thermal design/analysis experience for spacecraft or avionics payloads.
• Experience with thermal testing and advanced thermal materials.
• Design, analysis, and integration experience of spacecraft or subsystems.
• Proficiency with Icepak, Thermal Desktop, NX.

Responsibilities

• Develop thermal-systems requirements.
• Perform thermal analyses to optimize designs.
• Document analyses and designs.
• Review drawings for thermal-design hardware.
• Report results to management and customers.
• Plan and execute subsystem-level thermal tests with test engineering.
• Provide feedback on cost/schedule changes.
• Work independently with minimal oversight.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
• Mentor junior engineers.
