Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Sector seeks a Thermal Systems Engineer (Level 3 or 4) to join the Vehicle Engineering Directorate in Redondo Beach, CA. The role supports the Thermal, Propulsion & Cryocooler Systems team, delivering robust thermal-control solutions for spacecraft programs.

The ideal candidate has strong thermal engineering fundamentals, experience across related disciplines, and the ability to mentor others.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5+ years of engineering experience or advanced degrees with corresponding experience.
Active Top Secret clearance or SCI access at time of application.
Thermal design/analysis experience for spacecraft subsystems, payloads, and directed energy systems.
Expertise in thermal testing, requirements derivation/verification, and advanced thermal materials.

Responsibilities

Develop thermal-systems requirements.
Perform thermal analyses to create/optimize thermal-control designs and deliver solutions for challenging problems.
Document thermal analyses and designs.
Review and approve drawings for thermal-design hardware content.
Report results to internal management and external customers.
Partner with test engineering to plan/execute subsystem-level thermal tests and analyses.
Provide feedback on cost/schedule impacts.
Work independently with minimal oversight and coordinate with other disciplines.
Mentor junior engineers and share best practices.
