Job summary

Prometheus Energetics seeks a Thermal Systems Engineer to own TPS design and thermal analysis for solid rocket motor components. You will model, test, and validate insulation, nozzle materials, and interfaces, reporting to the Director of Engineering in Bloomington, IN.

The role demands hands-on experience with high-temperature materials, ablative systems, and manufacturing integration, with opportunities to mentor junior engineers and drive program milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.
• 4–6 years of TPS or high-temperature materials experience for Thermal Systems Engineer.
• 7–10+ years for Senior Thermal Systems Engineer owning TPS/ablative design and qualification.
• Proficiency in transient thermal analysis using industry tools (Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, Abaqus, FIAT/CMA).
• U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, sizing, and qualification of thermal protection systems for SRM assemblies.
• Develop and maintain 1D–3D thermal models and boundary conditions for TPS analyses.
• Plan and execute subscale testing; correlate data with models.
• Provide technical mentorship and documentation for program milestones (PDR, CDR, MRB).
• Ensure ITAR/EAR compliance and safety guidelines across operations.
