Job summary

Prometheus Energetics is seeking a Thermal Systems Engineer to own the design, modeling, testing, and lifecycle integration of Thermal Protection Systems (TPS), internal case insulation, and ablative nozzle components for solid rocket motor programs at Bloomington, Indiana.

The role emphasizes hands-on aerothermal analysis, high-temperature materials, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver flight-ready hardware under ITAR constraints.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 4–6 years for Thermal Systems Engineer; 7–10+ years for Senior role.
• Proficiency in transient thermal analysis tools (e.g., Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, Abaqus).
• U.S. Citizenship; ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead TPS design, sizing, and qualification for solid rocket motor assemblies including insulation and nozzle components.
• Develop and maintain thermal models (1D/2D/3D) and boundary conditions for propulsion systems.
• Plan and interpret subscale tests; collate data for model validation and design refinement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and qualification of hardware.
• Mentor junior engineers in thermal analysis techniques and testing methods.
