Job summary

X-Bow Systems is seeking an Ablative Thermal Analyst to support the design, analysis, testing, and qualification of internal insulators and thermal protection systems for rocket motors and flight profiles.

The successful candidate will perform thermal response analyses of ablative materials exposed to severe internal heating, atmospheric entry, and other high‑temperature environments, collaborating with materials, structural, ballistic, and systems engineering teams to deliver reliable

Qualifications

• Experience in heat transfer, thermodynamics, or thermal analysis.
• Experience with computational modeling.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute thermal analyses for ablative insulation systems.
• Evaluate material recession, charring, pyrolysis, and temperature distribution.
• Translate environments into analysis inputs.
• Build and maintain computational models.
• Correlate predictions with test data (arc-jet, furnace, radiant heating).
• Conduct sensitivity studies and design trade analyses.
• Support material screening, sizing, and testing.
• Assist in design reviews and material reviews boards.
• Prepare technical reports and verification materials.
• Collaborate with test engineers on instrumentation and objectives.
• Support root-cause investigations of thermal protection performance.
• Contribute to process and tooling improvements.
