Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics in Twin Cities, MN, is seeking a documentation specialist to draft and revise technical materials for naval systems. This role emphasizes clear user-focused instruction, adherence to DoD documentation standards, and collaboration with engineers and program teams.

You will develop manuals, installation guides, and test documentation, ensuring publication-ready layouts and lifecycle management from development through sustainment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience with an associate's degree in Technical Communication or other relatable field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
• Fundamental knowledge in desktop publishing software and proficiency in applications; Microsoft Office and document-control and/or configuration management systems
• Experience with structured authoring, XML, Adobe Acrobat, CAD-viewing tools, or technical illustration tools preferred

Responsibilities

• Develop, revise, and maintain technical manuals, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, installation guides, test documentation, and training materials.
• Create and/or assist in creation of drafts or revisions of formal proposals
• Produce layouts for publication
• Translate complex engineering concepts, drawings, specifications, and test results into concise, user-focused documentation.
• Partner closely with engineers, quality, manufacturing, logistics, program management, and other subject-matter experts to gather and validate technical information.
• Ensure documentation meets customer, contractual, configuration-management, and applicable military or industry standards.
• Organize and manage documentation throughout the product lifecycle, from development and qualification through production and sustainment.
• Ensure documents are compliant with applicable US DOD Documentation Requirements, e.g. DI-MGMT-81453A Data Item Descriptions
• Edit and improve material prepared by other writers
• Become familiar with product technologies and production methods
• Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail
• Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
• Review manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment
• Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding
