Position Summary

DSE is seeking a Technical Writer to provide support to our PMA-280 customer. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing high‑quality technical documentation with minimal guidance. The documentation must be coherent, easy to follow, and comply with corresponding standards, style guides, and directives to meet customer and end‑user needs. The ideal candidate will also have a strong understanding of the acquisition lifecycle, including Acquisition Plans (AP) and Acquisition Strategies (AS), and will be skilled in the formatting of briefs and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documents including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation.
• Write and edit technical documentation for all of the project’s hardware and software to include installation, configuration and how‑to documentation.
• Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publications.
• Gather technical information, prepare written text.
• Utilize multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio etc.
• Coordinate layout and design of documents to ensure a professional and consistent look and feel.
• Research highly technical subject matter, organize information from multiple sources, and express technical information in written form that is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers.
• Apply advanced concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject matter experts, and other available sources.
• Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end‑user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems.
• Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings, operational procedures to understand and blend large quantities of computer related information.
• Work independently preparing and maintaining highly complex systems, programming and operations documentation, procedures and methods.
• Prepare and format high‑level briefs for senior leadership and stakeholders.

Education and Experience

• BA or BS degree and 3‑10 years of experience as a Technical Writer in DoD Weapon Systems programs.

Must work onsite 100% of the time at NAVAIR, located Lexington Park, Maryland.

Must possess a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Starting salary range between $70,000 - $110,000 annually.
