Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Construction & Development seeks a Senior Technical Specialist 2 to lead design, analysis, and project teams for complex capital projects at 2 Broadway. This role spans planning, scheduling, specifications, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

The incumbent will supervise a small technical staff, mentor junior engineers, and ensure adherence to codes and standards while coordinating with internal engineering groups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate technical discipline or equivalent.
• Discipline options include Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Computer, Communications, Electrical, Electronics, Signals, or Systems Engineering/Technology.
• Minimum 10 years of related experience.
• Minimum 4 years in a managerial/supervisory or project manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization and/or with highly complex systems.
• PMP or relevant technical certifications are desirable.
• NYS Licensed Professional Engineer is a plus.
• Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Focus and the ability to deliver results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
• Strong team-building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
• Proficiency in current design and engineering software and Microsoft Office.
• Experience interpreting technical drawings, reports, and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Designs and supervises various aspects of a project for MTA systems and infrastructure.
• Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as-builts to create design projects.
• Provides expertise to resolve technical issues.
• Researches and recommends solutions for systems integration and interface issues.
• Reviews designs, performs tests and assessments of equipment, software, and materials, and reviews technical calculations.
• Conducts site visits to obtain existing conditions and identify project design and delivery risks.
• Plans and coordinates required project approval documentation and permits where applicable.
• Provides technical field support for system installation and related project construction.
• Manages a small team of technical staff.
• Embraces mentoring from senior staff.
• Adheres to corporate quality control standards within the area of technical expertise.
• Coordinates with in-house engineering disciplines and other areas of technical expertise as needed.
