About Company:

Kundlas Consulting Group LLC is a professional consulting firm specializing in construction inspection and compliance services for public infrastructure projects. Our core services include on-site inspection of roadway, bridge, and utility construction to ensure adherence to engineering specifications, safety standards, and contract requirements. We support clients with daily reporting, materials testing coordination, schedule tracking, and quality assurance oversight. Additional services include project management, grants management for federally funded infrastructure and disaster recovery programs.

About the Role:

This position involves designing, maintaining, and optimizing the mechanical and electrical systems that support subway and bus operations. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot issues, implement upgrades, and comply with regulatory standards. A key outcome of this role is to enhance transit system performance while prioritizing passenger safety and minimizing service disruptions. The MTA Engineer will also contribute to long-term infrastructure planning and innovation to meet evolving urban transportation needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation engineering, preferably in public transit systems.
  • Strong knowledge of transit vehicle systems, signaling, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and standards applicable to metropolitan transit authorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Registered Architect (RA), or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) in the state of New York.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Transportation Planning.
  • Experience working with Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) systems or similar urban transit networks.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and transit simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and experience leading engineering projects.
  • Certification in safety management or transit operations (e.g., Certified Transit Safety and Security Officer).
Responsibilities:
  • Design, test, and maintain mechanical and electrical components of transit vehicles and infrastructure.
  • Conduct regular inspections and diagnostics to identify and resolve system malfunctions or inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to develop and implement engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and safety standards.

  • Participate in emergency response and troubleshooting to minimize service interruptions.
  • Support capital projects by providing engineering expertise during planning, procurement, and construction phases.
Skills:

The MTA Engineer utilizes technical skills daily to analyze complex transit systems and develop practical engineering solutions that enhance system reliability and safety. Strong problem-solving abilities enable the engineer to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently, minimizing downtime. Communication skills are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and conveying technical information clearly to stakeholders. Proficiency in software tools such as CAD and simulation programs supports the design and testing of transit components. Additionally, knowledge of regulatory standards ensures that all engineering activities comply with safety and operational requirements, fostering a secure transit environment.
