Job summary

The engineer will participate in all MTA C&D project lifecycle phases for the Signals & Train Controls Business Unit, including planning, scheduling, analysis, design, technical specifications, and reports, working closely with senior staff to ensure engineering rigor and compliance.

Based in New York at 2 Broadway, the role requires a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline, a NYS Professional Engineer license, and a minimum of four years of related experience; telework is eligible

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline; four years of related experience required.
  • Registered NYS Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • Knowledge of capital design and construction process.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in design software and Microsoft Office.
  • Field visits for scope surveys and construction oversight preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs/supervise various aspects of a project for MTA Signals & Train Controls.
  • Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as-builts to create innovative engineering design projects.
  • Reviews designs, tests, assesses materials, and performs/reviews engineering calculations.
  • Conducts site visits to obtain existing conditions and correctly identify design and construction risks.
  • Embraces mentoring from senior staff.
  • Adheres to corporate quality control standards within the discipline.

Telework

This position is eligible for telework , which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in the appropriate Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection).
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Registered NYS Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • Knowledge of the capital design and construction process.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in current design and engineering software and Microsoft Office are required.
  • Experience visiting the field for initial scope/survey and construction oversight preferred.
